ACNE SCARRING
Acne scarring can develop from just one pimple. Many people develop more noticeable acne scarring over years of persistent breakouts. Acne scarring occurs differently in most people who suffer from it. Sometimes acne scarring is a temporary situation that results from healing acne flare-ups. For other people, once acne scarring has occurred it tends to leave more permanent divots, depressions, and dark brown or red pigmentation in the skin. Many people with acne scarring complain of a “cobblestone” appearance.

If you suffer from acne scarring, BEST IMPRESSION MEDICAL SPA encourages you to make an appointment for a free consultation and skin evaluation. During this visit you will meet with a dermatology/skin specialist. Your scars will be evaluated and recommendations will be made as to how you can decrease, and in some cases, eliminate unwanted scarring.

ROSACEA
Rosacea is a common chronic condition primarily of the facial skin. It is common in the third and fourth decade of life, peaking at the age of 40 and 50 years. The causes of rosacea are still not clear but it tends to run in families and be more apparent in those with fair skin and/or a history of sunbathing. Early stages of rosacea are characterized by persistent redness or ruddiness to the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. Rosacea can also affect the eyes leading to inflammation of the lids. Rosacea flares often occur following exposure to known rosacea triggers, such as sun exposure, stress, alcohol and menopause. Rosacea frequently leads to the development of facial spider veins, also called teleangiectasias, and acne-like bumps. Once facial spider veins occur, the only treatment for the visible vessels is laser therapy. In some extreme cases, diffuse overgrowth of connective tissue and sebaceous glands may occur which can lead to the enlargement of the nose, called rhinophyma.

Rosacea can be treated and controlled if medical advice is sought in the early stages. It may take several weeks or months of treatment before a person notices an improvement of the skin.

When left untreated, rosacea often gets worse and then becomes more difficult to treat. Although there is no cure for rosacea, it can be treated and controlled. The goals of treatment are to control the condition and improve the appearance of the patient’s skin.

At BEST IMPRESSION MEDICAL SPA, your skin will be evaluated by a dermatology nurse practitioner

SPIDER & VARICOSE VEINS
There are two types of treatments for the removal of superficial vessels: SCLEROTHERAPY and LASER THERAPY

Sclerotherapy is a very popular treatment in the winter months. Advance planning and treatment of spider veins will leave you prepared for the skin-bearing summer months! Sclerotherapy is done in half hour treatment sessions. The number of veins injected in one session varies and depends on the size and location of the veins. Approximately as many as 50%-80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy. Depending on the number and severity of your vessels, we will make a recommendation of the number of treatment sessions you may require to clear the vessels. In general, spider veins respond in three to six weeks, and larger veins respond in three to four months. Treatment sessions are usually about 4-6 weeks apart. Veins that respond to treatment will not reappear. However, new veins may appear at the same rate as before. If needed, you may return for touch-up injections.

SKIN TAGS & REMOVAL
Skin tags (acrochordons) are small growths of skin that some people develop on the face, neck, armpits, and the groin. They frequently occur in areas of friction. There is no way to stop skin tags from occurring, but they can be easily treated in our office Skin tags are generally harmless, but frequently annoying and unattractive. Skin tags removal is considered cosmetic and will therefore not be covered by most health care policies. Please make an appointment with the dermatology Nurse Practitioner to be evaluated and for a quote on their removal.

MOLE EXAMINATION & REMOVAL
Many people have moles in various numbers and locations on their body. In most cases we are genetically predisposed to developing moles. Some of us are even born with moles called congenital nevi. If you have moles or freckles it is important to examine them on a monthly basis. Sometimes self-examination is difficult because the moles are on our body in a spot that is hard to see. Sometimes there are just too many moles for you to examine.

If a mole changes size, shape or color, or a new one develops after the age of twenty, Dr. Mirabile or the dermatology Nurse Practitioner should evaluate it.
Early detection of suspicious moles saves lives!

WART REMOVAL
Warts are caused by a virus. They can occur anywhere on the body, although they are frequently found on the hands and feet. Warts can be large or small, single or clustered lesions, and they may or not be painful. If warts are present on the skin, removal is recommended since active warts are more likely to spread on your skin and there is an increased risk of exposing others.

Warts can be removed in a number of ways. The dermatology Nurse Practitioner will evaluate your wart and make a recommendation

TATTOO REMOVAL
A tattoo used to be a permanent and irreversible adornment to one’s skin. However, as time goes by many people with tattoos change their mind. Some people choose to remove their tattoos, while others may only choose to change the tattoo. We can help you do both!

Because each tattoo is unique, removal techniques must be tailored to suit each individual case.

The most common techniques for tattoo removal is laser surgery. The laser removes the tattoo by selectively treating the pigment colors with a high-intensity laser beam. Lasers have become the standard treatment because they offer a “bloodless,” low risk, highly effective approach with minimal side effects. The type of laser used generally depends upon the pigment colors. In most cases, multiple treatments are required. Please make an appointment to be evaluated and for a quote.

MICRODERMABRASION
Microdermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. A unique device sprays tiny crystals across the face or desired skin area, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation. At BEST IMPRESSION MEDICAL SPA we offer packages of 4 and 6 treatments that help you look your best! Our treatments are followed by a skin calming treatment to leave your skin glowing and vibrant! Microdermabrasion is an excellent choice for acne patients!

PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY (PDT)
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a light-based therapy that reaches the deeper layers of skin without harming the skin’s surface. Whether treating suspected skin cancers, sun spot, or acne, the process is very similar. The treatment utilizes a drug called Levulan and a light source. The Levulan solution is applied to clean skin and left to incubate for one hour. After this incubation period, the Levulan is then activated on the skin by a light source, the Palomar laser. After the treatment is completed, the Levulan will be washed off using soap and water. A temporary mild stinging or burning is expected during treatment.

Patients must avoid exposure of the treated areas to sunlight or bright indoor light for 48 hours following PDT. Exposure to light will continue the activation of the medicine and may result in stinging and/or burning sensation and may cause redness and/or swelling of the area. Patients should protect treated lesions from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or similar head covering of light-opaque material. Sunscreens will not protect against all photosensitivity reactions caused by visible light. However, opaque sun-blocking agents such as zinc oxide will provide some protection in the first 48 hours. Sunglasses are also recommended.
